Grey Highlands 25th Anniversary

"Many Places. One Community: Proudly Celebrating 25 Years of The Municipality of Grey Highlands."

MANY PLACES- ONE COMMUNITY.

Say hello to Olive and Ozzie - The Grey Highlands 25th anniversary mascots!

They’re here to bring extra fun, smiles and imagination to our celebrations this year.

Olive and Ozzie are ospreys, a bird that stands for strong vision , abundance, faithfulness, and protection.  You can see an osprey flying proudly on our Grey Highlands logo and flag- now these two are helping bring those same strengths to life in a playful way.

As we honour out past , celebrate our present, and work together to build a bright and welcoming future, Olive and Ozzie will be cheering us on and helping everyone feel part of our amazing community.

Brought to you by the Grey Highlands 25th Anniversary Committee.

Historical Background

The Municipality of Grey Highlands is made up of communities and townships shaped by 19th‑century settlement patterns, agricultural development, and evolving transportation networks. Surveyed and opened to settlement through a combination of Crown land programs and early road construction, the area developed around farming, natural resource use, and small rural service centres. Over time, villages, concession roads, and local industries formed a landscape that reflects both shared regional influences and distinct local histories. The following sections provide a brief historical background for each township and community within Grey Highlands

Celebrating Our History

In 2001, the Village of Markdale and the Townships of Artemesia, Euphrasia, and Osprey came together to form the Municipality of Grey Highlands through Ontario’s municipal restructuring process. This amalgamation united several historic communities and hamlets—including Eugenia, Flesherton, Ceylon, Maxwell, Singhampton, Priceville, Kimberley, Feversham, and others—into a single municipality with shared services and a common vision for the future.

In 2026, we proudly celebrate 25 years since this significant moment in our local history. Throughout the anniversary year, we will reflect on the unique heritage of each former township, honour the villages and hamlets that give Grey Highlands its character, and recognize the people and stories that shaped the community we know today. At the same time, we look forward—celebrating how far we’ve come while embracing the opportunities ahead as we continue building our shared future together
