Markdale Arena Restoration Update

GREY HIGHLANDS, ON, August 25, 2026 – The Municipality of Grey Highlands is providing an update on the ongoing restoration of the Markdale Arena following the 2025 fire.

The Municipality recognizes the importance of the Markdale Arena to the community and understands the disappointment associated with the revised reopening timeline.

During the restoration process, additional work was identified as necessary to address soot and fire-related damage to portions of the arena’s wooden roof structure. This additional work has extended the restoration schedule.
Based on the current project schedule, restoration work is anticipated to be completed in mid-November. Once the restoration work is complete and the arena is returned to the Municipality, approximately two weeks will be required to install and prepare the ice, with ice availability currently anticipated around December.

The Markdale Community Hall remains open and available for regular use throughout the arena restoration.
Municipal staff are working directly with affected arena user groups to identify alternative arrangements while the restoration work is completed.

The Municipality will continue to provide updates as the project progresses and appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as work continues toward reopening the Markdale Arena.
