Council Highlights for July 22, 2026

Council Highlights from the July 22, 2026, Council meeting:

• Markdale Fall Fair Noise Exemption Approved
  A noise by-law exemption for the Markdale Agricultural Society's Fall Fair on August 29-30, 2026, allowing fair activities to extend beyond regular noise by-law limits.
• Special Event Noise Exemption Approved
  A noise exemption was approved for an event at 773319 Highway 10 on September 5-6, 2026.
• King Edward Park Planning Moves Ahead
  Council awarded the contract for engineering and costing work for the King Edward Park redevelopment project to S. Burnett & Associates Limited and directed that the Grey Highlands Public Library be included in future planning discussions.
• Markdale Lagoon Expansion Progressing
  Council approved the next steps in the procurement of equipment needed for the Markdale wastewater treatment plant expansion project.
• Drainage Improvements Coming to Flesherton
  A contract was awarded to SMRS for drainage improvements in the Flesherton rear lane area to help address local drainage concerns.
• Loon Call Subdivision Approval Extended
  Council extended the draft approval for the Loon Call subdivision for an additional three years, until August 2029.
• Planning Applications Approved
  Council approved planning and zoning amendments related to the Old Durham Enterprise development proposal and lifted a holding provision on a property on Centre Line B.
• Advocating for Infrastructure Funding
  Council is calling on the Province to permanently maintain increased Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) funding to support municipal infrastructure needs.
• Community Health Centre Agreement Under Review
  Staff will work with the South East Grey Community Health Centre on a new funding agreement that includes enhanced reporting on services and community impact.
• Land Acknowledgement Initiative Begins
  Council directed staff to connect with local Indigenous communities to explore opportunities for incorporating Indigenous perspectives into municipal initiatives.
• Crosswalk Options Being Explored
  Following a request from the Grey Gables Family Council, staff will explore potential pedestrian crossing options with the Ministry of Transportation.
• Support for More Accurate Voter Lists
  Council passed a resolution urging the Province to improve voter list accuracy ahead of the 2026 municipal election.
• Markdale Gateway Project Not Advanced
  Council reviewed the results of the Markdale Urban Gateway survey but did not approve moving the preferred design forward at this time.
• Albert Street Water Supply Transition
  Council directed staff to begin transitioning affected properties away from wells located on municipal lands and to decommission those wells following the transition period.
