Council Highlights from the August 5, 2026, Council meeting:

 

 

  • Accessibility Improvements at Flesherton Arena

Council approved moving forward with tendering for a new Universal Accessible Washroom addition at the Flesherton Arena.

  • Sidewalk Improvements Coming to Markdale

Council awarded a contract to D Rock Paving for sidewalk improvements on Lorne Street to improve pedestrian connectivity and safety.

  • Preparing for Winter

Council awarded winter sand and salt supply contracts to Walkers Aggregates Inc., Robinson Haulage Inc., and Seeley & Arnill Construction to support winter road maintenance operations.

  • Traffic Safety in Feversham

Council will advocate for a Community Safety Zone, School Zone, reduced speed limit, and additional traffic calming measures on Grey Road 2 in Feversham.

  • Future Review of Rural Business Growth

Council directed staff to investigate options to help ensure new and expanding on-farm diversified businesses contribute fairly toward road infrastructure costs generated by increased truck traffic.

  • Heritage Property Owners to be Contacted

Council directed staff to contact owners of listed heritage properties regarding upcoming provincial deadlines related to heritage designation.

  • Heritage Buildings Could Support New Housing

Council supported advocacy efforts encouraging the Province to create a grant program that would help convert and restore heritage buildings into new housing opportunities.

  • Pollinator Habitat Proposal Not Supported

Council considered a request for a staff report on pollinator habitat restoration along municipal roadsides, but did not approve the motion.

  • 2025 Financial Audit Completed

Council received the Municipality's 2025 audited financial statements, with the auditors reporting no significant concerns regarding fraud, compliance, or internal controls.
