Camp Molly Inspires Young Women Through Learning, Leadership and Connection in Grey Highlands
GREY HIGHLANDS, ON, August 18, 2026 – Close to 30 young women spent the week challenging themselves, building confidence, and discovering new possibilities during Camp Molly, held in Grey Highlands.
Camp Molly is a unique initiative designed to introduce young women to the fire service while fostering leadership, teamwork, resilience and personal growth. Throughout the week, participants worked alongside experienced firefighters, learned new skills, faced physical and mental challenges, and formed friendships that will last long after the camp has ended.
While firefighting was at the heart of many activities, organizers say the experience offered much more than technical training.
Participants left with increased confidence, a stronger sense of self, and a supportive network of peers and mentors who encouraged them every step of the way. For many campers, the week was an opportunity to discover strengths they didn't know they had.
The success of Camp Molly was made possible through the dedication of dozens of volunteer firefighters who generously gave their time, energy and expertise to mentor the next generation.
"We are incredibly grateful to every firefighter who volunteered this week," said Grey Highlands Fire Chief Marty Wellwood. "These members stepped away from their own families and responsibilities because they believe in supporting youth and creating opportunities for young women. Their commitment made a lasting impact on every camper who attended."
The camp also benefited from the support of neighbouring fire departments, including Hanover Fire and Emergency Services, whose members participated throughout the week.
"Collaboration is essential to the future of the fire service," said Hanover Fire Chief Jeff Dentinger. "By working together and investing in today's youth, we're helping build confidence, leadership skills and potential pathways into firefighting and emergency services. We're proud to support Camp Molly and the opportunities it creates for young women."
For Camp Molly Treasurer Paula Andreychuk, the Grey Highlands experience stood out as one of the best-organized camps she has been part of.
"From the planning and logistics to the volunteers and community support, everything came together seamlessly. The passion and commitment shown by Grey Highlands and its partners created an incredible experience for these young women."
Chief Wellwood said the camp exceeded expectations.
"What we witnessed this week was truly remarkable," he said. "The growth in these young women from day one to the final day was inspiring. They encouraged one another, pushed through challenges, and discovered what they could accomplish. That's something they'll carry with them long after Camp Molly is over."
As the camp wrapped up, organizers reflected on the community support that made the week possible.
From sponsored lunches and snacks to ice cream treats, equipment, supplies and countless behind-the-scenes contributions, local businesses, organizations and volunteers came together to ensure the campers had an unforgettable experience.
None of it would have been possible without the incredible sponsors whose generosity helped bring Camp Molly to Grey Highlands. Their support went far beyond financial contributions, helping create an environment where young women could learn, grow, connect and thrive.
