2026 Election - Municipal and School Board
Notice of Nomination Period

The Municipality of Grey Highlands Municipal Election will be conducted by electronic voting between October 13, 2026, and October 26, 2026, for the 2026 Municipal Election. 

Those wishing to be a candidate for election are advised to note the following:

Nomination Period:
The nomination period will begin May 1, 2026, and end on August 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. 

Nomination Procedures:
Nomination Papers must be filed with the Clerk or designate in person at the Municipal Office located at 206 Toronto Street S. Unit #1, Markdale, ON during regular office hours.

The Nomination Paper must be accompanied by the prescribed filing fee, payable to the Municipality of Grey Highlands, by cash, certified cheque, money order, or debit.

The filing fees are in the amount of:
•    $200 for the Head of Council
•    $100 for the Deputy Mayor, Municipal Councillor or School Board Trustee

Each Nomination Paper (excluding School Board Trustee candidates) must be accompanied by a minimum of 25 signatures of eligible voters supporting the nomination. Individuals providing signatures must sign a declaration confirming they were eligible to vote in the municipality on the day they signed the endorsement.

Each candidate must provide proof of Canadian citizenship in a form acceptable to the Clerk. The onus is on the candidate to file a bona fide Nomination Paper.

Where to file your Nomination Paper:
Nominations for the following offices will be received by the Municipality of Grey Highlands:
•    Mayor (1)
•    Deputy Mayor (1)
•    Municipal Councillors (5)
•    Bluewater District School Board Trustee (Grey Highlands & Southgate) (1)

Nominations for other School Boards that service this area being accepted elsewhere.

Third Party Advertiser:
A third-party advertiser is any individual, corporation or trade union that causes an election campaign advertisement to appear. Third party advertisers are required to register with the Clerk of the municipality where they want to advertise. Registrations of third-party advertisers will be accepted between May 1, 2026, and October 23, 2026. Until the Clerk certifies the registration, a third-party advertiser may not spend money on their campaign, accept contributions or begin advertising.
