Update on Markdale Arena

Grey Highlands continues to work closely with insurance adjusters and engineering professionals to assess and develop a comprehensive scope of work addressing the complex structural repairs required at the Markdale Arena.

Time was required to thoroughly investigate the cause of the fire, and a range of experts were brought in to evaluate various components of the facility. This included specialists in structural modelling, mechanical systems, and engineering. Evaluation and testing were conducted on the refrigeration plant, including pressure testing of lines, and electricians and other technical experts were contracted to support the development of the scope of work.

Municipal staff note that this process remains active, with updates from the insurer provided as new information is confirmed. Once the scope of work is finalized and approved, a phased plan for reopening the facility will be developed.

The coordination of multiple experts across disciplines has presented challenges, particularly in aligning schedules and integrating findings into a unified plan. Despite these complexities, Grey Highlands remains committed to ensuring a thorough and safe restoration process.

At this time, staff do not anticipate the Markdale Arena being operational for the 2025–2026 season. Grey Highlands is working diligently to expedite the reopening of the facility for the community.
