The Municipality of Grey Highlands is presently receiving applications to fill the position of “Public Utilities Summer Student” for a period of 16-18 weeks. Hours of work are scheduled withing the core operating hours of 7:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M., Monday to Friday. Reporting to the Public Utilities Team Leader or their designate, the successful candidate will perform duties in accordance with departmental and corporate work plans and priorities.
Tasks will include but are not limited to the following:
• Conduct daily rounds and checks of municipal services/facilities
• Assist in locating water services and sewer laterals into private homes
• Assist with the water meter reading
• Assist with the sewer flushing program
• Assist with the implementation of the Drinking Water Quality Management System
• Assist with the operation and maintenance of the water and sewage system, including grass cutting, line trimming, and roto tilling
• Report and record asset maintenance needs or repairs to team leader or manager in support of asset management
• Performing other duties as assigned in accordance with corporate objectives
The ideal candidate will possess the following education, skills & abilities:
• OSSD (Grade 12) or equivalent, post-secondary courses in environmental engineering (water and waste water) a preferred asset
• OIT certification is preferred
• Valid Class “G” Driver’s License
• Valid First Aid Certificate is an asset
• Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions
• Ability to complete tasks involving heavy pushing, pulling, and lifting on a regular basis and work in an uncontrolled environment
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships
• Must be medically and physically able to perform all the duties of this position on an ongoing basis. May be required to work in confined spaces and handle hazardous chemicals only with the proper legislative training. Immunization Strongly Recommended.
