Markdale and KAT Water System Users – Cold Weather Notice
This notice is for all users of the Markdale and Kimberley‑Amik‑Talisman (KAT) Water Systems. As colder winter temperatures are here, please ensure your water lines are properly protected from freezing.
Tips to Prevent Frozen Water Lines
- Ensure the area around your water meter is heated and protected from freezing. (Any damage to private water lines and/or the water meter is the homeowner’s responsibility.)
- If you are not a full-time resident or you are traveling, make sure your home is kept above freezing and that someone is checking the heating system regularly.
- Leave natural snow cover in place on or around underground water lines, especially near the exterior wall where the lines enter your home. Snow provides valuable insulation.
- Monitor weather reports and cold‑weather alerts so you can take any additional precautions as temperatures drop.
