Grey Highlands Council Directs Staff to Advance OPP Facility Project and Comprehensive Analysis
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Grey Highlands, ON—October 16, 2026—The Municipality of Grey Highlands is pleased to announce that Council has given directions to municipal staff to begin negotiations for the development of a new Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) regional facility in Markdale. This initiative marks a significant step forward in enhancing public safety infrastructure for the region.
At the recent Council meeting, members unanimously supported a motion authorizing staff to engage with relevant partners and stakeholders to negotiate the process for building the new OPP detachment. Council further directed staff to prepare and report back with a comprehensive sustainable project analysis, ensuring all financial, operational, and community impacts are thoroughly evaluated before proceeding.
Mayor Paul McQueen commented, “This direction from Council reflects our commitment to public safety and the future of Grey Highlands. We look forward to receiving a detailed analysis from staff that will guide our next steps and ensure the best outcomes for our residents and neighbouring communities.”
The new facility is proposed to serve as a reporting centre for policing services across Grey and Bruce County, supporting multiple municipalities and potentially expanding service in the future. The project model will be delivered in a way that is revenue-neutral for Grey Highlands, with no additional cost to local taxpayers.
Further updates, including project timelines and design details, will be provided as the process advances and staff report back to Council.
