Boards and Committees
Committee of Adjustment (COA) |
The Committee of Adjustment (CoA) makes decisions on all minor variance and consent applications (severances, easements, and rights-of-way). The committee meets monthly as per the meeting schedule. (link) Visit Planning Services for more information on minor variances and consents (severances) The Committee of Adjustment is established under the authority of The Planning Act as its regulations, The Statutory Powers Procedure Act, The Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, Building Code Act, and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the common law concept of natural justice. Any responsibilities not clearly identified within the Terms of Reference shall be in accordance with legislation as outlined above. |
Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) |
The Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) shall provide advice and recommendations to Council to support a coherent community service approach on matters associated with recreation, community programming, recreational activities, facilities, and general community development within Grey Highlands. Police Services Board (PSB) |
The purpose of the Police Services Board is to establish priorities, objectives and policies regarding policing in Grey Highlands in consultation with the Detachment Commander and Council. Property Standards Appeal Committee |
The Property Standards Appeal Committee hears appeals to Order to Comply to bring a property into compliance with the Property Standards By-law. The committee can quash, uphold, or modify an order. Meetings for the Property Standards Committee are called as needed. |
Grey Highlands Public Library Board |
The Grey Highlands Public Library is comprised of three branches in Flesherton, Kimberley and Markdale, and a virtual branch at www.greyhighlandspubliclibrary.com , serving the residents of Grey Highlands and contracting municipalities of West Grey, and Chatsworth. The library also has reciprocal borrowing agreements with Meaford and the Town of the Blue Mountains. |
Seniors Advisory Committee (SAC) |
The Grey Highlands Seniors Advisory Committee was formed to offer advisory consultation to municipal council in a two-way information sharing process, where local grassroots solutions and public outreach discussions may be facilitated on issues around the World Health Organization’s age-friendly community elements. The committee seeks to coordinate the collection and dissemination of information and resources for seniors in the community. The committee will represent all areas of the Grey Highlands community of communities as a collective voice for the senior segment of the community. It meets monthly or at the call of the chair. |
Museum and Heritage Committee (MHAC) |
The Museum and Heritage Committee is a Committee of Council establish to fulfill the dual role for Museum and Heritage matters and reporting to Council. The Committee offers guidance to Council, staff and volunteers (including a Friends of the South Grey Museum group and Heritage Grey Highlands working group) on best practices and policies for the development of programs opportunities. The goal of the Committee is to fulfill the legislated requirement under the Heritage Act and provide a vision to be a cultural hub sharing community stories as it conserves, celebrates, interprets and inspires ongoing history and culture through the conservation of historical sites in the Municipality, programs and events, exhibits and speakers, collaborative projects, outreach and engagement. Heritage Grey Highlands is a sub-committee of the Museum and Heritage Committee for Grey Highlands and has it's own website. |
Climate Action Committee Task Force (CACT) |
On Council direction, this committee was created in 2019 which will serve to work with stakeholders through consultation to develop a fact-based Action Plan for fighting the climate crisis in Grey Highlands. |
Council Remuneration Advisory Committee (CRAC) |
The Council Remuneration Advisory Committee (CRAC) was established through Council resolution 2019-054 on February 6 2019 to review the Council Compensation By-law and provide recommendations to Council on Compensation ad Benefits. In achieving this purpose, the members of the committee shall ensure that the compensation provided: • is fair and reasonable and will attract a diverse and representative pool of candidates from Grey Highlands residents wishing to seek election to Council but also be seen as fair by taxpayers; • recognizes that the work of the mayor and council is demanding and important and as such they should be appropriately compensated; • recognizes the complexity, responsibilities, time commitments and accountabilities associated with the role of Mayor and Council; • is closely aligned to the 55thth percentile (similar to the Municipality’s employees) of the comparator group; • applies an appropriate ratio between the roles of councillor and that of the mayor and deputy mayor; • demonstrates fiscal responsibility. |
Transit Task Force (TTF) |
The TTF is a task force established to research and recommend to Council on options for public transportation for residents in Grey Highlands as per a request from the Seniors Advisory Committee. The Municipality is currently seeking members for the TTF. Click here to apply. |
Economic Development Advisory Group (EDAG) |
THE EDAG was established to report through staff to Council, the EDAG will provide strategic advice to facilitate and promote a holistic and sustainable long-term approach to economic and business development that will benefit Grey Highlands and its residents. |
Sign By-Law Task Force (SBT) |
The STF was established to research and present a comprehensive draft Sign By-Law option for Grey Highlands. |

Short-Term Accommodation Task Force (STAT) - Mandate completed 2019 |
The STAT is an ad-hoc task force established to meet the requirements of the specific task – to review the proposed short-term accommodation licencing program as presented by staff and to prepare a recommendation to Council on the implementation of the current proposal or any changes requested. Membership on the Board includes 2 members of Council, a minimum of 4 and maximum of 7 citizen members appointed by Council. |
