2018 Economic Development Strategy Update
In 2018, the Municipality of Grey Highlands, in partnership with the Grey County Economic Development department and the Grey Highlands Chamber of Commerce, engaged McSweeney and Associates to develop an economic development strategy for the Municipality. The stated purpose of the strategy was to develop a coordinated approach to the promotion of sustainable, long-term economic growth for the Municipality, and to identify opportunities for the Municipality and its community partners to build a strong economic community.
The report identified four key areas of focus for economic development initiatives:
- Community Development
- Main Streets and Village Cores
- Investment Readiness
- Tourism
The report was approved in principle in May 2018 (Resolution #2018-258) and Council has continued to prioritize economic development in the Municipality. At the October 21st, 2020 Council meeting, a resolution was brought forward (Resolution
#2020-670) that staff be directed to bring a report to Council outlining the status of economic development initiatives in Grey Highlands, including an update on the progress of the Municipality's Economic Development Strategy (McSweeney), the
impact of COVID-19, as well as identifying trends and potential next steps.
