Council Highlights May 17, 2033

This is a summary of the meeting items and not inclusive of all agenda items. All items are contained in the minutes.
- CAO Goven presented Mayor McQueen with a long-standing award from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. The award recognizes municipal elected officials who have served for at least 25 years.
- Wally Gabler spoke during the open forum portion of the meeting regarding item 13.1 - request to reduce the speed limit on Roads 22C and 3rd Line.
- The minutes of the May 9th Committee of the Whole were approved. Council directed staff to proceed with public consultation for the Comprehensive Zoning Review project.
- Council heard two delegations. The first from Tom Thwaits of the Big Canoe Project regarding the destination stewardship initiative. The second delegation was from Lesley Priddle requesting renovations to the Osprey Community Centre to add a change room for female hockey players. Council received both delegations for information and directed staff to report back on the costs and feasibility of the Osprey Community Centre project.
- Council approved two recommendations from Heritage Grey Highlands. The first to contact all currently designated heritage property owners to advise them of tax incentives. The second is to establish a heritage inventory for currently listed properties where property owners do not wish to proceed with designation.
- The new trail at Rotary Park has been officially named Armstrong Creek Trail. Council approved the name and directed staff to schedule an official ribbon-cutting ceremony and media release.
- A By-law was approved to appoint Councillor Loughead to the Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit (SMART) Board.
- Council received comments drafted by Planning staff in response to the proposed Provincial Policy Planning Statement as requested at the May 3rd Council meeting. The comments were approved, and Council directed staff to forward the comments to the Province on behalf of Grey Highlands.
- Council received the final consultant report on the Recreation Master Plan and deferred discussion of the plan until a future Committee of the Whole meeting.
- Council approved curbside goods exchange on the weekend after the long weekends in May and September each year. Council directed staff to bring forward an amended Waste Collection and Mandatory Recycling and Diversion By-law to allow for these weekends.
- Council received a report on Waste & Diversion traffic data and the feasibility of opening the Artemesia site an additional day. Council received the report and deferred any decisions until after the Joint Waste and Diversion Site Committee meets.
- The speed limit will be reduced on Roads 22C and 3rd Line from 80km/hr to 50 km/hr. Requests from residents were received asking for the speed reduction due to increased volumes of traffic and safety concerns. Council directed staff to report back on the condition of the road and proper signage and that the report be forwarded to the newly formed Roads Safety Community Partnership Committee.
- A notice of motion from Councillor Allen was approved to bring forward the current Delegation of Authority By-law with recommended staff amendments to an upcoming Council meeting.
