Council Highlights March 1, 2023

This is a summary of the meeting items and not inclusive of all agenda items. All items are contained in the minutes.
- Council received a delegation from the Grey County Federation of Agriculture regarding their priorities for 2023, including membership engagement, youth in farming, and promoting healthy farms and the environment.
- Council agreed to release funds for the new hospital from the hospital reserve once the Site Plan Agreement requirements between Grey Bruce Health Services and the municipality have been met.
- The Building Condition Assessment project was awarded to Nadine Consulting Engineers and will be funded from the FCM Asset Management Grant and OCIF Reserve Fund.
- Council will consider an amendment to the parking by-law to restrict parking on Toronto Street South, on bothsides, from Victoria Avenue to the south limit of the Markdale. Large-scale vehicles have been parking along this corridor, posing significant sightline and safety concerns.
- The Senior's Advisory Committee made two recommendations to Council. The first that Council advocate to Grey County for an additional 62 beds for Grey Gables as previously granted by the province. The second that Council support the Owen Sound community-led Health Human Resource Task Force to recruit new physicians. Council approved both requests.
- The Police Services Board requested that Council direct staff work with the OPP Communications Department to highlight the OPP activities through the Grey Highlands social media channels and add the Detachment Commanders monthly report to the Policing page of the Grey Highlands website.
- A report was received from Grey County regarding natural heritage review options. Council directed staff to send a letter supporting a second planning ecologist to support municipal application review.
- Mayor McQueen presented a notice of motion regarding re-use containers being added to all of the Grey Highlands Waste & Diversion Sites to allow residents to drop off/pick-up up items that can be reused. Council directed staff to report back on the feasibility of the project.
- A second notice of motion from Mayor McQueen was approved for a Terms of Reference for the return the Multi Municipal Long-Term Care Working Group to work with Grey County to create a 128 Long Term Care facility.
- Councillor Allen will present a notice of motion at an upcoming meeting to erect a permanent form of recognition for former Ottawa Senator, Chris Neil in his hometown of Flesherton.
- Council discussed Committee Appointments in closed session and appointed public members for the Museum Board, Heritage Grey Highlands, and the Multi Municipal Wind Turbine Working Group back in open session. The application process will be extended for the Road Safety Committee.
