Council Highlights May 3, 2023

This is a summary of the meeting items and not inclusive of all agenda items. All items are contained in the minutes.
- Sarah Pelton and Anne Marie Shaw delegated to Council regarding the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
- The recommendations for the Master Servicing Plan from the April 26th Committee of the Whole meeting were ratified.
- Councillor Loughead was appointed to the Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit (SMART) Board.
- Town Hall Forums will be scheduled quarterly on the third Tuesday of the month. The date and time of the first meeting will be released shortly. Staff were directed to contact the local Secondary School about holding a Town Hall at the school during local government week.
- Council received an update on planning policies and directed staff to prepare a letter to the Province with staff's concerns about the draft PPS and to proceed with an amendment to the Official Plan in relation to the rural consent policies.
- Council supported the nomination of Mayor McQueen to run in the election for the Board of Directors for the Ontario Association of Committee of Adjustment.
- An item was added to the agenda related to a letter sent to Grey Highlands residents about the Draft Nuisance By-law. Council discussed the details of the letter and directed staff to communicate the public consultation process for the draft by-law.
- Council awarded a limited tender for a Bulk Fill Station to Flowpoint Systems. The station will be located near the Markdale Complex and will provide a place for bulk water-filling services.
- One tender was awarded to Toromont CAT for a new Grader for $579,017.
- Council deferred the revised Site Alteration and Fill By-law so that public engagement can take place before consideration.
- Councillor Allen presented a notice of motion regarding the reimplementation of a South Grey Doctor Recruitment and Retention Committee for Grey Highlands. Council approved the motion and will provide staff with next steps and potential partners.
- Councillor Allen provided notice that he will be bringing a motion forward for a review of the Delegation of Authority By-law during this term of Council.
- During the Councillor Privilege portion of the meeting, it was noted that Deputy Mayor Nielsen has been appointed NEC Municipal Rep by Order in Council and that Councillor Dubyk has been appointed to the electHer Now Advisory Council.
