Tourism & Recreation in Grey Highlands

Fishing & Swimming in Grey Highlands

You’ll see fishermen at almost every lake, river and stream in Grey Highlands. There’s even Bud Hoffman’s Fly Fishing School where you can learn to cast. Several lakes and ponds have good safe beaches, perfect for family swimming. For the more adventurous at heart, swim in the rivers.

Eugenia Lake

The largest inland lake in Grey County known for its monster bass, rainbow, speckled, brown trout and perch can be found there as well. Bring your fish finder, buy a fishing map of the lake or simply fish off the causeway or dock. Out on the lake, from the vantage point of a boat, you can simply see where the big fish are in the clear water.

Fish tend to hide in the weed beds, among rocks or submerged logs. No minnows please as some species are invasive.

Eugenia Lake has a good wide swimming area for families with small children to enjoy with trees providing shaded sections. The lake bottom is a bit rocky. It’s easier to wade out to swimming depth with water shoes. A popular spot in hot weather. Located off County Road 13, turn east on Canrobert to the boat launch.

Flesherton Pond

Many inland lakes and streams have been stocked with rainbow trout. Flesherton pond is no exception. There’s a beach area, pavilion and suitable swimming for families. Located in Flesherton off County Road 4, west of Highway 10.

Markdale Pond

A beach area and picnic tables perfect for families with small kids. Located off County Road 12 at the west end of Markdale.

Beaver River

You’ll find rainbow and brown trout and some good locations for fly fishing. River swimming here is suitable for the adventurous and experienced. There is no beach or place to wade in gradually. Just jump in! Located north of Kimberley on County Road 13 at the river access point.

Wilcox Lake

Stocked with rainbow trout, you’ll find some bass as well. Swimming too!

Irish Lake

Fish for bass on this small quiet lake. No motorized boating means peaceful fishing from your canoe or row boat. A small launch area can be found close to the road.
