Firefighter and Support Staff Recruitment

Grey Highlands Fire & Emergency Services staff are part-time on-call employees of the Municipality.  The majority of staff members are firefighters trained to perform many of the duties you would associate with the fire service such as

  • fire fighting - structure fires, vehicle fires, grass / wildland fires,
  • assist EMS - medical emergencies assistance for Grey County EMS (ambulance)
  • auto extrication - vehicle accident rescue operations

as well other duties.  The recruit firefighter training program takes approximately 1 year to complete with training being done 1 evening a week and occassionally on the weekend.

In addition support staff perform many important duties including (but not limited to):

  • traffic control,
  • operations communications and records
  • firefighter on-scene location tracking
  • firefighter on-scene medical monitoring rehabilitation

Recruit support staff training is primarily done in the evening and takes approximately 6 months to complete dependant on the number of roles the recruit is trained to perform.

Recruitment is normally done once in each calendar year dependant on the number of vacancies.

Please contact Acting Fire Chief Marty Wellwood for more information on recruitment.
