Community Protective Services Committee

The mandate of the Community Protective Services Committee is to monitor fire protection services and facilities of the Municipality and to assess means to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of such services and facilities. It is also the mandate of the Committee to monitor the municipal Emergency Plan and assess means to enhance the Municipality's emergency preparedness. The Committee, through staff reports, will recommend to Council improvements to the Fire Service, its' facilities and the municipal emergency plan that are deemed appropriate.

Scope:

The Committee will;

  1. Monitor potential risks to our community as identified by Fire Service staff and the Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC) including an assessment of the severity of the risks and likelihood of occurrence.
  2. Recommend which risks should be within the mandate of the Fire Service to protect the community against.
  3. Recommend the level of protection and prevention activities the Fire Service will provide in respect to each risk within the mandate.
  4. Assess the options provided by fire service staff to achieve the desired level of protection and prevention.
  5. Recommend the staff, equipment, resources and facilities required and the service delivery methods to be used to provide the desired level of protection and prevention activities in the most efficient and cost effective manner.
  6. Monitor the development and implementation of the Fire Services Master Plan.
  7. Review and update the Fire Master Plan on an annual basis or as necessary.
  8. Recommend which risks identified by the CEMC should be within the mandate of the Town to protect the community against.
  9. Recommend the staff, equipment, resources and facilities required and the service delivery methods to be used to provide the desired level of Emergency Management protection.

 
Committee Composition:

Council appoints the members of the Committee through the Boards and Committee Appointment By-law.  It is composed of three (3) members of Council and the Mayor is an ex-officio member.  Staff support is comprised of the Chief Administrative Officer, Fire Chief and Chief Building Official with Administrative support from Clerks Department.
