Building and By-Law
Grey Highlands Building Department is the body responsible for enforcing Ontario’s Building Code in the municipality. We issue permits for the construction, renovation, demolition and certain changes of use of buildings. On-site sewage systems approvals and enforcement are the responsibility of Grey Highlands Building Department as well. Building permits allow the municipality to protect the interests of both individuals and the community as a whole. By reviewing and approving building plans before any work is done, the municipality can ensure that buildings comply with: • The Building Code, which sets standards for the design and construction of buildings to meet objectives such as health, safety, fire protection, accessibility and resource conservation • The local zoning by-law and other planning controls on buildings • Other applicable legislation, including conservation authority approvals and certain requirements under the Environmental Protection Act. Building Department - Code of Conduct The Municipality of Grey Highlands Building Department shall at all times undertake its responsibilities in a professional manner, and in conformance with the provisions of the Building Code Act, 1992, the Building Code and all applicable legislation. The Municipality of Grey Highlands Building Department staff, while carrying out their functions under an appointment, shall treat persons applying for or holding permits under Section 8 of the Building Code Act, as well as persons responsible for design activities, persons engaged in construction, and other persons with whom the inspector may come into contact in the course of carrying out their responsibilities with respect, honesty and integrity.
