Hiking the Bruce Trail in the Breathtaking Beaver Valley

The Bruce Trail is a spectacular hiking route in Grey Highlands. The trail winds its way into Grey Highlands from Duncan, follows the east rim of the Beaver Valley, crosses over to the west side and heads north.

Old Baldy
Old Baldy lookout side trail is a good access point with spectacular views to the west. Leave your car in the parking lot; follow the path through the field and into the woods to the top of Old Baldy. The village of Kimberley, small farms and ski hills can be seen from the lookouts along the trail.

You'll see flowerpot rock formations, broken away from the main cliff, 152 m high at this point.

The trail proceeds south from Old Baldy, then west into the valley, up the other side and follows the west rim north. Here you can see magnificent views of the Beaver River and Old Baldy.

Epping Lookout
Epping lookout's picnic shelter allows a quiet respite while offering stunning views of the valley and Nottawasaga Bay. A plaque mentions John Muir, founder of the Sierra Club, who walked the Niagara Escarpment in this area.

Eugenia Falls and Hoggs Falls
Side trails at Eugenia Falls Conservation Area and Hoggs Falls join both areas to the Bruce Trail. These trails include 2 waterfalls, part of Grey County's waterfall tour.

Bruce Trail Maps
Bruce Trail books with trail maps can be purchased at local bookstores. The Trail Association advises everyone to follow the blazes even though a path may travel in a different direction as paths may change due to different land ownership or new side trails. White blazes indicate the main trail, blue blazes indicate side trails.

The Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Club
Organized trail hikes and schedules are posted on the Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Club's web site, with a description of difficulty and distances.
